The Refuge
Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee Refuge is located in east-central Mississippi. The 48,000-acre refuge was established in 1940 and contains a diversity of habitats. Noxubee is one of over 500 refuges that make up the U.S.Fish and Wildlife Refuge System. The Blue Goose identifies refuges which are found in all 50 states covering more than 92 million acres. The beautiful center is a division of the Starkville School District, located in the heart of the Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge. The Environmental Education Center is a collaborative effort between the Noxubee Refuge and the Starkville School District, which maintains a unique partnership with Mississippi State University. The Center combines wildlife, incredible natural beauty, and education into unforgettable experiences for students and teachers. Program content and topics are tailored to meet the specific learning needs of students in grades K-12. A professional staff teaches a wide range of programs which address Mississippi Department of Education standards.
