Rules for the Amateur Nature Photography Contest
To participate, submit photo(s) and entry form to Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge no later than September 15, 2011, or mail to: Friends of Noxubee Refuge (FONR), 2970 Bluff Lake Road, Brooksville, MS 39739, postmarked by September 13, 2011.
Only amateur photographers are eligible to enter (i.e. contestants who do not possess or use any tax number for the sale of photographs or have never sold any photographs for profit).
Photos must portray wildlife and/or scenery photographed within Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge and have been taken within the dates of this contest (September 16, 2010 - September 15, 2011).
Photos must be submitted as prints in color or black & white. Both vertical and horizontal compositions are acceptable. Prints must be 8" x 10" or 8” x 12” with an 11” x 14” single mat board to facilitate display. (No hangers, frames or foam-core board, please.) Contestants must also submit a digital file or a 4" x 6" print of each photograph for FONR use. FONR reserves the right to request the original slide, negative or digital file for use in FONR and Refuge brochures or websites through September 2012. Photos may be used by FONR, with appropriate credit given to the photographer.
Photos will be judged in two categories: Wildlife (birds, mammals, fish, insects, etc.) and Scenery (landscape, people, plants, fungi). There will also be two age groups for each category: Youth (under 16) and Adult (16 and older). Each person may enter TWO photos per category and is eligible to win one award per category.
Judging criteria:
Digital photos are accepted with LIMITED MODIFICATIONS. Images can only be sized to 8x10 or 8x12 rectangular format in photoshop. Images that have been extensively altered by adding or removing elements or any other manipulation will be disqualified.
All entries will be displayed at the Refuge Visitor Center through December 2011. Those entries receiving awards will be retained by FONR to be displayed locally until October, 2012. All other entries must be picked up at the Visitor Center by March 1, 2012, or they will become the property of FONR to be used for promotional purposes.
In the event that fewer than 16 entries are received, FONR reserves the right to cancel the contest.
Winners will be announced and prizes awarded during the National Wildlife Week celebration in October, at the Refuge Visitor Center and will be posted on Friends-Of-Noxubee-Refuge.org website.
Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge and FONR are not responsible for loss or damage of photos.
