The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) announces that as of August 28, 2014, the Draft Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP), Environmental Assessment (EA) and associated step-down plans are available for Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge (SDHN NWR). The Service prepared this CCP pursuant to the National Wildlife Refuge System Administration Act of 1966, as amended by the National Wildlife Refuge System Improvement Act of 1997, and the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969. The CCP describes how the Service intends to manage the Refuge over the next 15 years.

A copy of the CCP is available:
1) by visiting http://southeast.fws.gov/planning and selecting the Refuge’s name under Draft CCP Documents tab
2) by emailing the Refuge at [email protected]
3) by contacting the Refuge at 662-323-5548
4) by visiting in person at 13723 Bluff Lake Rd, Brooksville, MS 39739

During the eight-week (60-day) public review and comment period that ends October 27, 2014, the Service will host three public meetings to gather comments. The first half hour of each meeting will be a presentation in which the Service will present information. Following that, there will be an open house where the public can provide verbal and written comments.

The public meeting schedule is:
1) 5 PM to 7 PM, September 29, at the Tully Auditorium, Thompson Hall, Mississippi State University, Starkville
2) 5 PM to 7 PM, September 30, at the Noxubee County Civic Center, Macon
3) 5 PM to 7 PM, October 1, at the Lake Tiak O’Khata Conference Center in Louisville

Comments may also be submitted in writing to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee CCP:
1) By email to [email protected];
2) By mail to 13723 Bluff Lake Rd. Brooksville, MS 39739
3) By fax to 662-323-6390

To ensure consideration of your comments in the development of the final CCP, all comments must be submitted by the deadline of October 27, 2014.

The actions outlined in the CCP provide direction and guidance for future management of Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee NWR. Successful implementation will depend on coordination and partnerships between the public, the partners, the Service, and other governmental agencies.
